Clearing the pasture of bracken fern on the Alpe Vicania

Problem : The uncontrolled and uncontrollable growth of bracken fern endangers the functionality of the meadow and the dry pasture.

Measures : The ferns were mowed twice a year and piled up in the forest.

Method : Uprooting of brambles and bracken ferns by hand, mowing with brush cutters and sickle bar mowers. Raking onto tarpaulins and transporting the ferns to the forest using tarpaulins and a pickup truck.

Result : The growth power of the ferns decreases, and the dry meadow can once again fulfill its ecological functions, slowly spreading and reclaiming the areas conquered by the ferns.

Ecological added value : The dry meadow can expand and the priority species can develop.

Future prospects : Two mowing operations are planned for the Alpe Vicania next year.
