On behalf of the site owner of the Schlieren gasworks, the nature network was allowed to reactivate a former pond in late autumn, which was previously used for the temporary storage of process water.
In recent years, the existing depression in the ground has only served as a soakaway for the roof water from the adjacent industrial buildings. Now, half of this roof water is channeled into a pond made of natural rubber. The pond can be emptied as required for any cleaning work via an outlet at its lowest point.
The newly created shallow water body is intended to serve as a habitat for water-dependent animal and plant species in the future. Together with the ponds renovated in spring 2019, it represents another stepping stone element in the landscape. We are excited to see how the new body of water develops in 2020.
