New flyer boxes for the Thurauen

The Thurauen Nature Center is a program of the PanEco Foundation on behalf of the Canton of Zurich. For over 10 years, the nature center has been the gateway to the largest floodplain conservation area in the Swiss Mittelland - and is therefore the point of contact for all information about the Thurauen, the revitalization and the conservation area. Guided tours, events and rangers in the area raise awareness of the protection of the floodplains and a sustainable lifestyle.

It is obvious that the Northeast Switzerland Nature Network is in close contact and exchange with the ranger service and the Thurauen Nature Center. After all, in our daily work in the Thurauen we always move around in the same area, use the same infrastructure and ultimately pursue the same goals - we put ourselves at the service of nature and ensure sustainable use of the Thurauen nature reserve. This naturally also includes well-planned, understandable and informative visitor guidance.

In order to guide visitors, the Nature Conservation Department of the Canton of Zurich informs the population in many supra-municipal nature reserves using information boards and flyers. Various content such as observation opportunities, rules of conduct, special features of the areas and the like are brought closer to visitors to the Thurauen. There are flyer boxes at various locations where you can stock up on information material.

As the need for information points and the amount of information material is constantly increasing, new flyer boxes are needed from time to time or old ones have to be replaced. For this reason, the Northeast Switzerland Nature Network was commissioned by the ranger service to build four new flyer boxes. These were to be constructed in exactly the same way as the previous ones, but be able to offer a wider range of flyers. After measuring the old boxes, a CAD plan was drawn up for the construction of the new ones and the necessary materials were ordered.

CAD Project Flyer Boxes

The four boxes were finally manufactured in the Nature Network Northeast Switzerland's own workshop. We can work with wood, metal and plexiglass here. Within two days, two civil servants, with the help of an operations manager, built the four flyer boxes and got them ready for installation in the Thurauen. They will then be installed in spring 2023 by the local forestry department, who will mount the flyer boxes on solid oak trunks.

A beautiful project that required good planning, very precise work and skilled craftsmanship. But all of this was clearly overshadowed by the great fun that the project gave us.
