The city of Winterthur's water requirements come largely from the Töss groundwater flow. Thanks to water extraction plants, stage pumping stations and reservoirs, as well as a 430 km long pipeline network, the water reaches households. This infrastructure is constantly being adapted to the latest standards and the development of population numbers.

A new water reservoir with a capacity of 4000 cbm was built in Oberseen. We from the Nature Network Northeast Switzerland team were then tasked with designing the area. As in other places, Stadtwerk Winterthur attaches great importance to the ecological compatibility of its actions. We had the opportunity to create various stepping stone biotopes with the community service workers. Among other things, a foil pond of around 50 m2 in size was created, a ruderal area and sandstone/sand areas for ground-nesting wild bees. We also created nesting aids for wild bees nesting in hollow spaces by encasing tree trunks in concrete and drilling holes with a drill.
