Butterfly protection at Zurich Airport

Opfikon

The rare Plum Hairstreak and the Small Purple Emperor are found near Zurich Airport. During this assignment, you will work in a newly reforested area where measures to promote these two butterflies have already been implemented.

The females of these butterflies lay their eggs singly on Prunus and Populus species. These plants were newly planted last spring, but they will need to be cleared of overgrown plants such as blackberries as part of this effort.

Under the guidance of our experienced guides, you will undertake this meaningful and rewarding activity. Maintaining and improving habitats often requires labor-intensive measures that would be impossible without the helping hands of volunteers. Get involved and create invaluable value for biodiversity and habitat conservation.
